Always wanted to learn to ski tour but never had the chance? Loved those stories that friends told you about the wonders of ski mountaineering? Revelstoke Ski Touring, located in British Columbia, is pleased to offer its newest training: a six-day Introduction to Powder Ski Touring course! Ski touring provides the perfect way to explore Canada’s Rocky Mountains in winter. Only the soft swish of your skis disturbs the quiet slopes, and every skiing ascent is rewarded with breathtaking views and exhilarating descents. What better spot to learn how to ski tour than the magnificent Rogers Pass? With record snowfall each year along with vistas that seem endless, this backcountry skiing course may be the perfect choice for you!
Our powder ski touring courses cover all the training you need to enjoy ski touring or ski mountaineering, including an Avalanche Skills Training course (AST 1) that adheres to the Canadian Avalanche Association's guidelines for recreational avalanche safety training. You'll spend six days in the mountain backcountry with superior accommodation at the Glacier Park Lodge and outstanding daily ski touring or ski mountaineering. Courses include training on ski touring gear, weather watching, how to walk, track setting, self rescue, route finding while skiing and more, all while exploring the breathtaking mountains of Rogers Pass, British Columbia!
By using normal downhill skis with a special binding (which pivots at the toe of the boot and can lock down the heel), powder ski touring lets you explore deep into untouched skiing wilderness. Sticky skiing skins let you climb with ease, while the heel lock makes downhill skiing a breeze. Snowboarding enthusiasts are welcome on our courses, but we highly recommend split boards and good snowboarding skills to keep up with those who are skiing.
"The course was very well tailored to what we wanted to get out of it – thank you so much!"
